Organization when choosing washable diapers

Tips and tricks to make your job easier

Organizing a changing area with fabric diapers is not that different from organizing a changing area with disposable diapers

The changing table :

Everyone finds their own way to work efficiently, of course.  The organization evolves over time according to the age of the child.

Always make sure to separate the clean from the dirty, keep everything on hand and restock so you don't run out of anything.

Personally, this is what took me a little while so if I can give inspiration to the busy parents that you must be, this is how my changing table is currently organized :

Organization of the changing area when using washable and reusable diapers
  • A trash can for disposable veils that will go in the organic trash (not all types of veils can be thrown away in the toilet, be careful!),

  • A dirty laundry area for dirty bodysuits and pajamas,

  • A wash net that closes for diaper wipes: it prevents them from getting stuck between the glass and the rubber of the washing machine and therefore not being washed properly.

  • A space for diaper covers: fleeces, disposables and toilet paper just in case (e.g., to scrub a diaper from excess stool).

  • A clean wipes area,

  • Your clean diapers put together and ready to be used.

Products for diapers :

Cloth diapers don't like grease, it clogs them, which means they absorb less efficiently. Liniment and classic diaper creams should only be used when necessary (sticky stools or redness) and with a protective veil. On a daily basis, I use water in a bottle and clay that I moisten to protect the buttocks from redness. It's quite effective, quite natural and low cost!

A fabric diaper garbage can :

The best thing to do is to invest in a diaper bucket or garbage can that will have the capacity that tells you, "it's time to do the diaper laundry!" They usually have a good lid that also retains odors. For the bucket, there are wash nets with an elastic band that don't close but allow you to easily transfer the contents of the garbage can to the machine (you simply place the open net in the bin so that the diapers wander in the machine while they are being cleaned).

I run with two bags (one in the bucket, one in the wash) so I never run out of diapers.

For odors, a washable wipe with a few drops of tea tree essential oil in the bottom of the bucket does the trick.

Near the changing table, if you have a water point, you can easily rinse the excess stool off the diapers or rinse an overlay for later use if you chose this system (TE2 or snap in one for example).

When the stool becomes more abundant and needs to be disposed of, you will need a trash can with a lid and a biodegradable bag. If the toilet is close by, it is easier to toss it directly.

For the moment, the organization suits perfectly the needs of baby, dad and mom in terms of efficiency.
