Using washable diapers for the first time, how to go about it?

Useful tips for an optimal use of reusable diapers

Once you've found the perfect diaper (TE1, TE2, Snap-in-one; the right brand and size), the one that fits your child's body type and your organization. It's time to invest in cloth diapers.

If you find the right model second hand, don't hesitate, go for it, your carbon footprint will only be reduced!

If the diaper you buy is new, then you will need to wash the absorbent part of the diaper three times before using it (or soak it about three times overnight). In reality, optimal absorption is only reached after about 15 washes.

If you have opted for wool overlays, then you will need to wash them with a special lanolin impregnation product. The brand Ulrich naturlich offers this type of product. You should soak them with lanolin about once a month to make them waterproof.

To avoid wearing out diapers too quickly and to get rid of baby's stools easily, you can use a diaper cover to put in the diaper.  Totsbots offers this type of washable cover. There are reusable fleece liners that give a "dry" effect to baby's bottom. It is ideal for night diapers or when baby has an irritated bottom and you want to use creams.

You can also use disposable liners between the diaper and baby's bottom.  They are quite convenient for removing stool and flushing it down the toilet.

For my baby, the system that works best is the snap-in-one diaper during the day and the Bamboozle molded diapers from Totsbots with a Popolini wool overlay for the night.
