And you, how do you live your periods ?

Serenity and natural intimate hygiene

Gentlemen: Read at least the texts in italics, your collaboration is most welcome 😉

Pride, embarrassment, disgust, surprise, relief or indifference, women periods require organization, foresight or even rituals to care for myself.

Do enough and do not overdo it ...

The best trick to feel in balance and be in tune with your body is to listen to your body, choosing quality over quantity and avoiding the commercial pitfalls of buying everything and anything.  My wallet will feel better too !

My hygiene, simply

No need to complicate things, the "rules" to observe are simple and obvious. To not unbalance my flora :

-     I wash my hands before any contact with my genitals. It is obvious but not always easy, it is not uncommon to be faced with a sink without soap, a tap that produces a trickle of water or worse, no sink at all !

-    I wash my vulva once or twice a day using mild PH-neutral products such as a perfume-free soap or an intimate gel composed of ingredients that are non-aggressive for the mucous membranes. I avoid to change soap too aften so that my flora composed of micro-organisms remains stable and healthy

-    I choose clothes in natural material, soft as cotton and not too tight to avoid wet maceration

Abdominal pain ? Low morale? Hypersensitivity? This is my daily lot during my periods, so this is the moment that I choose to pamper myself

Dysmenorrhea (abdominal pain) can be soothed with some simple tips

-   The consumption of ginger, sage and valerian herbal teas, cold or hot. In addition to the comfort of herbal teas, they provide well-being and relaxation

-   The use of a hot-water bottle on the lower abdomen for about twenty minutes except in case of heavy periods because the heat can increase the bleeding

-   Relax while avoiding to curl up. It is best to extend the legs and lie on your back to try to relax. For my part, I take a bath, I listen to Zen music and as a very pleasant remedy, the orgasm: it relaxes the muscles and soothes all pain ... it seems ...

I do not disregard my fatigue and the upheavals caused by the time that precedes my period (PMS) and the menstrual period. The activity of my hormones changes and my mood too. Gradually I try to identify what is happening in my body, in my mind at each cycle, I adapt my activities, I create my well-being rituals, I lengthen my sleep and rest, I listen to my body.

My food, my desires ...

I want to eat sweet, nothing more normal, the sweetness of sugar is comforting, it is my body speaking. I avoid eating a whole chocolate bar and choose dark chocolate because it is rich in magnesium and less in calcium.

It's the perfect time to make pain-relieving and comforting "good mood" smoothies. Here is the list of fruits and magic ingredients to marry, test and adapt according to your tastes and the season of course :

-  Ripe avocados, spinach, almond milk and bananas: stress, fatigue, vitamins B6, magnesium

-  Strawberries, orange juice, grapefruit and lemon: pains, C-vitamin, iron

I choose fruit and vegetables rich in vitamin C such as citrus fruits, red fruits, stone fruits, yellow peppers, fresh parsley. True antioxidants fighting free radicals, they promote the regeneration of vitamin E and therefore fight against cellular aging. " Two birds with one stone "

Do not hesitate to share it with your entourage, a boost to good humor and morale won't harm anyone !

At work, at school, on the move, ... I organize myself

I try to anticipate and organize around this inevitable period. When I'm away from home, my fear is that I can not change my protection when I need it and stain my clothes. In the evening, I check my schedule the next day to reassure me, I identify the times when I could access the toilet and I prepare my hygienic protection accordingly.

Sleep is sacred! I sleep serenely

Wonder how to wake up in the morning without having to completely change the sheets but especially to sleep with peace of mind even in case of heavy periods? I place a dark towel on my sheet and use sufficiently long, broad and absorbing protections to feel reassured. Small tip to eliminate organic stains (blood, perspiration, etc.) on white linen: simply wet the area to be detached, apply percarbonate soda and leave for 30 minutes, rub and machine wash. The same goes for your washable menstrual pads.

Washable or disposable protections ?

The reasons to change to washable protections or those to keep using disposable ones are equally numerous and are very personal. As in many areas, it is best not to be extreme in one's decision and respect your feeling.

I tried to make an opinion. The washable protections and cup suit me well in some situations and not at all in others. So I always carry both in my "secretygienic" kit. I adapt myself by thinking about the environment, my wallet, chemical residues but always "doing my best without putting pressure on me"
