In conclusion...

1. Storing butter in the fridge

The most common way to keep butter fresh is to store it in the fridge. You simply need to buy it and refrigerate it in its original packaging.

If you select this option, it is important to leave it in its paper. Its taste tends to change when it is next to fragrant food items.

You can use a butter dish, but then the butter cannot be kept more than three weeks after it is opened.

There is also Ghee butter, a clarified butter that can easily be stored in the refrigerator or at room temperature.

2. Keeping butter at room temperature

Even if your butter was kept in the fridge, you can still store it at room temperature after. This is good, because we all know how annoying it is to try to spread cold butter on a toast.

You can also use French butter dishes (small butter dishes) or French butter dishes with water, as shown in the picture below.

You just need to fill the perforated part with salted butter et to put water in the other part of the butter dish. You can then store it in your kitchen, and it will then be ready to be eaten at mealtime.

There are different types of butter dishes, so feel free to read our article: "What are the different types of butter dishes".

3. Storing butter in the refrigerator

If you know you are not a big consumer of butter, but you like to buy it in large quantities because it is less expensive, think about the refrigerator!

When you buy it, if it is not opened, leave it in its packaging and put it as such in the freezer.

If the butter packet has already been opened, put it in a stainless steel preservation box, with its original packaging. In this way, salted butter can be stored in the refrigerator for up to one year, and unsalted butter up to three months.

After this period of time, the butter will start absorbing the smell of the food around it.
