Organisation, goal setting, objectives

A simple, real-life method for the transition to veganism

My last meal as a meat-eater

It was Saturday 17th September at around 1pm, just before I started my move. In a restaurant, not far away, I had a vol-au-vent, I won't say I enjoyed it but the occasion was so special that I was obviously more than aware of the change that was coming.

This change was very complicated at the beginning, the time to understand, to learn and to organise the menus, completely changing my eating habits. I was leaving the family home and taking my convictions with me. Of course the change was brutal and afterwards I admit that I should have done one thing at a time but you don't rewrite the past, you learn from it. I would say that the first 2-3 weeks were difficult, my body showed me that but, as many people would expect, the planning allowed me to get back on my feet and today I have no regrets. I assure you, with organisation before the change you can do very well. That's why I'm telling you, don't make the same mistakes I did and be organised.

Irrelevant neglect

Today, with a few months of experience, I am managing the situation much better than it started. I have taken the time to understand what was missing from my plate and what I need, especially through monitoring. I organise my meals for the week so that I never run out of anything and always ensure that my needs are met. I set myself various goals, starting with the discovery of meat substitutes - sources of protein - such as jackfruit, tofu or seitan. I didn't set out to make an appointment with a nutritionist, but after all, expert advice can't hurt, quite the opposite. It was after this appointment that I decided to gain muscle mass and to finally use my convictions to establish a nutrition plan adapted to my needs and desires.

Never give up

The vegan diet is still not widely followed, but it is becoming more and more important in our society, which means that many people are likely to find themselves like I was at the beginning, lost. Faced with this possibility, I would like to make sure that access to information about vegan products is done more quickly and accurately, precisely to avoid many people feeling overwhelmed and giving up. This is not a solution.
