CLAIREFONTAINE

Aware that the paper industry is a major consumer of water and wood fibres, Clairefontaine integrates ecology into its corporate strategy.

- The paper pulp comes from forests that are certified for their environmental management (thinning cuts, sawmill offcuts, cultivated forests).
Clairefontaine is actively involved in increasing the area covered by forests in France.

- Over 80% electricity self-sufficient

- The Vosges production site has its own biological water treatment plant ("trophée de l'eau" awarded by the State).

- Clairefontaine notebooks are totally recyclable.

- Clairefontaine has the PEFC and FSC certifications

- For part of the range, the Blue Angel certification is awarded to products that have little impact on the environment (composition, method of manufacture and processing). Only papers made from 100% post-consumer waste paper are certified.

- Each stage of the product life cycle is taken into account, from the selection of the wood, the manufacturing process, to the treatment of the finished product. Our papers are controlled on the basis of these main ecological criteria:

* Reduction of energy consumption and emissions into the air and water during paper manufacture
* Limitation of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and hazardous substances in inks, adhesives and other solutions used for printing.
* Systematic treatment of all manufacturing waste through selective collection and waste recovery.
* Recyclability of the finished product through the use of renewable materials.
The Global Compact guarantees the respect of not only ecological criteria, such as the maintenance of biodiversity, but also ethical and social criteria, for example: respect for human rights, labour law and no child labour.
